Ribbon Amulet - Adding Embellishments

After you have constructed your pouch, you are ready to add your choice of embellishments. There are really no boundaries when it comes to embellishments. So, let your creativity flow. For the Ribbon Amulet pictured, I added a top ruffle of beads, some fringe, and a few dangles on each side.

For embellishments, you’ll need:

ribbon pouch
choice of seed beads
choice of stone and/or crystal beads
beading needle & thread
Ruffle of Beads

1. Pick out some seed beads and thread your needle. Bring the needle through the one end of the front of the pouch.

2. String on 4 to 5 seed beads.

3. Then hold the thread so the beads slide down next to the pouch. Hold the beads against the pouch.

4. Bring your needle through the pouch, and pull the thread until the beads are against the pouch.

5. Continue steps 2 - 4 until you have a line of beads across the top of the pouch. (If you have a seem here, try to cover it up with this line of beads.)

6. When you have one line of beads on one side of the pouch, bring our needle back through all the beads. This will help the beads straighten up against each other.

7. Repeat steps 2 - 6 so there is a second line of beads on the other side of the pouch.

8. Next, string on 5 seed beads, skip a seed beads, and bring your needle through the next seed bead.

9. Continue moving around the top of the pouch by stringing on 5 seed beads and skipping a bead until you have a ruffle of beads around the top of your pouch.

10. Bring the needle through stitches on the pouch and tie a few knots before clipping off close (and carefully) so there are no threads dangling.

Fringe

1. Tie a knot on the end of your thread and bring it directly trough the middle of the pouch and out the end. You may have to try this a few times in order to get directly in the middle. A ruler might even be handy here.

2. Add one a super short piece of fringe by adding one seed bead, one stone bead, and one seed bead.

3. Then skip the last seed bead and come up through the other two beads.

4. Next, you are ready to make a few half circle of beads around this short piece of fringe. Bring the needle back down through the end of the pouch about ¼ inch away from the middle piece of fringe.

5. String on your choice of beads. I strung on 4 seeds beads, 1 stone bead, 9 seed beads, 1 stone bead, and 4 seed beads.

6. Then bring the needle back up through the end of the pouch (on the other side) ¼ of an inch away from the middle fringe.

7. Continue making half circles of fringe as you like.

Dangles

You can make dangles on either side of your pouch, directly under the ruffle, if you want to add a little more. Again, it is up to you. If want to make dangles, they are really just short pieces of straight fringe.

Now you’re ready to add the strap.
