Ribbon Amulet

While visiting a quilt store, I discovered some beautiful, wide ribbon which inspired me to make some Ribbon Amulets. I used to sew years ago, and though my sewing skills have gotten a little rusty, you really don’t need to be a sewing expert to make this project. If you can sew in a straight line, then you can do this. Even if you can’t sew in a straight line, you could always use fabric glue.

Tips Before Starting Before jumping into this project, there are a few tips I’ve collected while making a number of these. First, there are different ways you can go about the sewing of the pouch. You can use a sewing machine, sew by hand, or use fabric glue. I pulled out my sewing machine, and I created an assembly line. This allowed me to construct a number of pouches at one time. This saves time for a number of reasons. First, if you are like me and don’t keep your machine out all the time, you save the time it takes to set up your sewing equipment. Secondly, when you feel like making a Ribbon Amulet, you just have to pick up a pouch and start beading.

Also when you do the sewing portion of this project, you might want to set up your iron and ironing board. I always like to pin and press each section of ribbon before sewing them. This really helps out because the ribbon is slippery and can move around a lot.

I bought about ¼ yard each of various types of ribbon, and depending on how I folded each pouch, I was able to get three to four pouches per section of ribbon.

I know this sounds like a lot of prep work, but if you do this, you can save yourself a lot of time later. And believe me, these turn out so nicely you will want to make more than one Ribbon Amulet.

There are a few different stages to make a Ribbon Amulet:

Constructing the Pouch
Adding Embellishments
Connecting the Strap
