First kits, then videos, now Beadshop.com has added to their line of distance learning tools with classes on CD. I got a chance to review their Specialty Earrings Step-by-Step Class on CD. It includes instructions for four different earring designs: Chandelier, Fancy Gem Drop Wire-Wrap, Gift-Wrapped, and Tango; two techniques: rosary loops and wrapped loops; and an additional listing of miscellaneous design ideas. The four earring designs are also pictured on the front of the CD, so you can get a chance to view the finished designs before purchase. Cost (not including shipping and possible sales tax) is $14.95 and CDs can be purchased through their website at www.beadshop.com .

Overall, I found the information on the CD very easy to access. Each set of directions are included on a separate pdf file on the CD, so to view the CD classes, you need to use Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher (downloadable for free on line). You have the option of either trying it out on your screen or printing up hard copy directions from the CD to bring to your studio or workshop. If you have used any of their kits previously, then you’ll see the same kind of clear color photographs have been included with each set of detailed and easy to follow directions. All four earring designs provided are trendy yet still have a sort of sophisticated appeal that Beadshop.com is well known for, and considering that you get four projects and two techniques on this one CD I think the price is very reasonable. In fact, it seems like I’m not the only jewelry maker who thinks this because according to Janice Parsons, their CEO, their shop in Palo Alto, California sold 25 copies in just two days. It looks like these folks may be onto something!
