How to Use a Bead Tip
From your Jewelry Making Guide

There are a number of ways to finish off a necklace or bracelet. Bead tips, also known as clam shells, are one of them.

Difficulty Level: Easy    Time Required: 15 minutes

Here's How:
  1. Tie 2 over hand knots, one on top of the other, in your thread (nylon, silk, etc.).
  2. Trim off excess thread so the knots are at the end of the thread.
  3. Insert opposite end of the thread (which may or may not have a needle on it) through the hole in the bead tip so the knot rests inside.
  4. Use pliers to close the bead tip around the knot.
  5. String on your beads.
  6. Add a bead tip to the end so the bead tip faces away from the beads.
  7. Tie 2 more knots on top of each other so the knots rest inside the bead tip.
  8. Trim off excess thread.
  9. Use pliers to close the bead tip around the knot.

Tips:

  1. Add a little glue to your knot if you want to be extra sure it will stay inside the bead tip.
  2. Bead tips are also called clam shells, but they are basically the same thing.
  3. Bead tips can be found in base metals as well as silver and gold.
