Hoarding Our Beads?

Wednesday July 4, 2007
I just saw this post on the forum about Hoarding Beads, and I had to make a comment about it here as well. Even after all these years of making jewelry, I have issues about not being able to let go of beads or other precious jewelry components sometimes. As the jewelry making forum member put it, when I'm making a gift for someone, I sometimes hesitate and ask myself if the receiver is "bead worthy" or not.

This thread is already getting a huge response, so I know she and I are not alone in our torment over this issue. I've actually gotten much better about it over the last few years. First, I realize that usually the receive is never going to be worth enough, so get over it. And, also, I can always buy more beads!

I totally understand how hard it is to give away a bead project. I have several that were originally created for other people, but I just couldn’t let go. I do enjoy making jewerly for family and friends, but it seems that the pieces I create for others always seem to turn out so much better than the ones I make for myself.
