Not surprisingly, I personally did not manage to meet all my resolutions when it came to jewelry as well as personal goals. Some of this is because 2010 brought some unexpected events: a new book that comes out soon (more on this at a later date) and a busier than usual work schedule at my real job (teaching) because of increased enrollment. On the personal on-going weight issue, my goal of losing weight didn't happen, but I have drastically changed my eating habits. I joined an organic food buying club and have substantially cut back on processed foods, so while I am not skinny, I am eating healthier.
So this year, I asked forum members to compare their end of the year 2009 resolutions with the reality of 2010. Some have reported success and other have not. However, rather than beating ourselves up about it, I agree with some members who say it is best to just keep looking forward and do what you can do. Others are totally against making resolutions because they are so hard to keep!
I'm going to place myself somewhere in between not making any resolutions and making some that are too specific. As far as jewelry, I'm going to just keep doing what I do: make it and write about it. I will see what direction 2011 takes me as far as that goes. On the food issue, I hope to keep eating healthy and now work on portion control.
What about you? Are you against resolutions completely, have big plans for 2011, or are scaling back on your plans in general?

My life is in a constant state of changes and adjustments to make things better…making myself an end-all list really doesn’t help or change anything. I will always try to keep my weight down, simplify my home, expand my jewelry and music-making horizons, and make enough money to survive comfortably because, well, that’s how I want my life to run. That said, my goal for this year is to live gracefully, to accept changes and challenges gracefully and approach them in a productive yet calm way.
Resolutions have never worked for me in the past, whether I make them tiny or a huge list…..BUT, they’re always the same: Make great jewelry, network with others, sell my jewelry, lose a few pounds, make time for exercise, make time for my husband & son…..it goes on & on….too much & very overwhelming! For 2011, I want to calm down & make my wonderful family come first & then list the jewelry priorities after my “boys”. I still want to get a website going after many years of being technology challenged…..I think BALANCE is the key for me……I love your blog, Tammy!
Thanks for sharing Tammy, same here, again my weight is a problem, I will loose the weight 2011 at least 20 kilo.
I quit my job last month and will start making polymer clay workshops in Holland (The Netherlands).
This will start in march/april and I do so hope to make enough money to be able to live from it, thats my dream, my goal for 2011.
I wish you all a happy and healthy new year.
Eleonora
Best of luck with your new jewelry business, Eleonora.
Congratulations Tammy! It sounds like you have actually accomplished quite a bit!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I’m of the “day at a time” persuasion – try to do the best I can with each day I’ve been blessed to wake up. It’s been a good year in the jewelry-making department because thanks to your tips and other resources I’ve expanded my skills with wire – especially copper. I adore working with copper!! Please give us more tips/projects in the coming year if possible.
Thank you, Tammy, for all your hard work and wishing every one a great New Year — a day at a time~!
Happy New Year! I’m going to sit down today (January 2) and work on my goals and resolutions. Yesterday, I started the New Year right with friends and family over and a feast of all the lucky foods we could think of. (being in the south, that meant black eyed peas, turnip greens, corbread and ham…plus 12 grapes and a nice round cake!) I lost 54 pounds last year, so one of my goals this year is to keep going with that! Another is to actually make a little jewelry for myself, instead of always for other folks. For me, that’s one of the best ways to get inspired. And to paint more. :~)
