Then the other day as I was catching up on-line with a soap opera I have watched for years, Young and the Restless, I saw that one of the actresses on that show is also going to be on QVC soon with her own line of jewelry. Sharon Case (who plays Sharon Newman on Y&R) teamed up with a friend of hers, Elif Inanc, who works for the show as well only in the wardrobe department. You can read an interview with the actress on the Y&R web site about how they developed their jewelry line . A few of her pieces are pictured there as well, and I also found a web site called Soap Opera Jewelry that has some of Sharon Case's jewelry.
So this all leads to a quick poll below about your thoughts on celebrities who come out with their own jewelry line. Take the poll and then feel free to comment with your expanded thoughts on the subject.

As a craftsman as well as artist, it boggles my mind when someone lays claim to a “line”. Maybe it could be likened to the days of patronage for artists and artisans, but I really feel that if they didn’t design and execute the original piece for each item, they really ought not put their name on it.
I tend to agree to a certain extent, Beth. I think they often use the term “design” very loosely.
Maybe I’m too cynical, but I think it’s just a big marketing ploy to get people to buy it. I don’t think there’s anything particularly special about this jewelry – I think the jewelry manufacturers probably figure more people will buy it if a celebrity endorses it. Personally, if I’m going to buy jewelry, I prefer to buy from an independent artist and not something that has been mass produced.
It gets me peeved that they are sometimes referred to as a jewellery or fashion designer when all they do is give their name to the line.
I design and created jewellery almost everyday and I still don’t really feel right calling myself a jewellery designer.
