Bahama Souvenir Penny Earrings

By , About.com Guide   May 18, 2010

Follow me on:

I just got back from a short cruise to the Bahamas. While I can't say that the cruise experience is my cup of tea, I did find the island people extremely friendly and the country's beaches and water gorgeous.

Like most tourists, I shopped and bought all kinds of nick knacks, t-shirts, and other items I really didn't need. You know, the regular stuff that you feel compelled to buy in order to have some tangible items to help you preserve your memories of the trip. When I got home and got unpacked, I discovered some Bahamian coins at the bottom of my purse, specially a number of shiny pennies. I thought they were so pretty; why not turn them into earrings?

You could use this same technique to turn other souvenir coinage into jewelry, but for this new project I used some pennies from the country I just visited: Bahama Souvenir Penny Earrings.

This a lovely project. However, you should be careful about defacing money of any kind. In some countries, it is against the law.

I love the idea of using whatever you have collected on a trip to create a remembrance of the places you’ve been.

Thanks, and yes, I think many of us come back with a little change when we visit other countries. And just to be clear, I live in the U.S. It is not illegal to re-purpose money in this country. ;)

What a great idea!
These little coins are so pretty, I would love to create a piece of souvenir jewelry with them.
