Load Up on Valentine Jewelry Projects

By , About.com Guide   January 28, 2010

Follow me on:

Valentine's Day is a great excuse to make jewelry. Even if you don't sell it, there's no reason why can't make a few simple jewelry pieces for your close friends or yourself.

I have more Valentine's Day jewelry designs in the works, but for right now, you can load up on what I do have, which is a pretty large number of tutorials, located in this new list of project links: Valentine's Day Jewelry Projects.

As of this post, I have 20+ projects over there with more to come! What about you? Are you making jewelry or crafting other items for this up-coming holiday? Let us know by taking the poll below:

Strangely enough, last night was the night I sat down and put together a bunch of the ceramic beads I’d made over the past several months.

First time to do so, and I must say…get them made up into necklaces, and they really look cool! :D

This year I think I will be making some small ‘thinking of you’ gifts for family. Better get started….! Kate

Beth, oh, please share! If you write it up, send me the URL and an image so I can blog about it.
Kate – That is a very nice idea. I’m sure they would enjoy a little “pick me up” type of gift.

i’m making work lanyards with .015 Beadalong bead string wire but these seem to break. I switched to AccuFlex .019 (48mm) 7 strand firmest Drape beading wire. So far none of the lanyards have broken but I want reassurance that this is a good selection. Also, what do you recommend? I’m using mostly 4-8mm beads.

Pat – The breakage could be due to lots of other factors. For example, you said you use up to 8mm beads, but what are the beads made of? If they are made of heavy material such as hematite or glass, then .015 may not be thick enough for it. Also, make sure you are using the correct size crimp beads. If you are moving up to .019, you may need 3×3 crimps. Breakage can also happen if the beading wire is crossed inside of the crimp bead. You may want to post your questions on the forum at http://jewelrymaking.about.com/forum and include more details like exactly what type of beads your using and the size of crimp beads too. You may get more feedback there.
