Looking Back 2009 - Looking Forward 2010

We often will post each year on the Jewelry Making Forum, which is free member forum for jewelry designers connected to this site, about our successes over the year and what we hope to accomplish in the coming year. I hesitate to call these resolutions since you can only do what you can do. Sometimes you can accomplish what you set out to and sometimes life just gets in the way, so you can't beat yourself up about it.

Last year, one of my goals was to get organized, and I spent a good deal of last summer going through years and years of accumulated jewelry and crafting supplies. Many items I donated to places like the group which calls themselves "A Little Something." Other items I put in my Etsy.com shop or gave to friends and family who I know would use the items. The rest, materials I knew I would and could use, I organized in labeled bins and other organizers. It was a lot of work, but looking back, I think of this as one of my major accomplishments for 2009.

Now for 2010, I have a few ideas, and so do many of the members of the forum, so I added a post for everyone to share their thoughts about looking back and looking forward. I asked two questions, which you can answer here or over there:

1) Looking back over 2009, what are you the proudest or happiest about concerning your jewelry? Is there anything in particular that you accomplished?

2) Looking forward to 2010, what kind of jewelry and/or personal goals do you plan to set for yourself?

I’m glad you’re asking these questions! Last year I did a goals post for the new year and have just been reviewing it and thinking about my plans and post for this year.

One of my goals last year for my jewelry was to learn new techniques. I did learn to do hammering and hand-forging which was a lot of fun. I also learned to anneal heavy gauge wire.

Looking forward I want to learn more new techniques and get my studio organized. I’ve got the room picked out but cleaning up and organizing has barely started.

I am only a few years into making beaded jewelry and am still learning a lot. I started donating jewelry sets to charity auctions and they have sold well. I am proudest of donating about 80 sets to the local Womens Shelter run by the Y.W.C.A. The pieces were so well accepted they have asked me to participate in one of their larger fundraisers in 2010.
For goals in 2010 I want to learn more about and successfully sel some jewelry online.

Yes its that time of year for setting targets and aspirations. For us at jewellerymen.comwe need to concentrate on improving our Christmas campaign. Now is the perfect time to plan next year’s campaign while the memories of 2009 are fresh in our minds. In 2009 we just tried to list as many items in our store as possible and even by the end of November we were spending valuable time listing items. This year we have decided to take a diferent approach. Instead of trying to have so much stock in the store we will select pieces and ranges of our work and use electronic flyers and mail shots to bring these to the attention of our customers. After all there is little point in having a large stock if customers are not aware of them. We have built a solid customer base and take a great deal of trouble to record our correspondence with them. This year we will make the most of this hard work. In 2010 we will have to be sure of stock by the end of September so that we have the time for maximum promotion using electronic flyers and catalogues as well as newsletters and blogs during November and December.
We at The Regnas Collection wish you all well in 2010. Have a great year!!..Start planning for Christmas 2010 NOW !!!
