Interweave, a major publisher of numerous craft books and magazines, many of them jewelry-related, announced a big change in its magazine publishing list. Two of its beading magazines, Beadwork and Step-by-Step Beads, are merging into one, which will still be published under the title Beadwork. According to David Pyle, VP/Division Publisher for Art, Jewelry and Yarn, the reason for this (and I'm paraphrasing here) was due in part to competition between various other jewelry magazines and the creation of a stronger reader base. The last issue of Step-by-Step Beads will be published this January/February 2010, and after that, anyone subscribed to this magazine will start to receive Beadwork instead.
I can imagine with today's economy the way it is, this is a smart move on the part of Interweave. Luckily, many of the talented editors will still be around to teach us all their jewelry and beading secrets. Plus, there are a number of new items that will become part of the updated Beadwork magazine. It should be interesting to see how this may or may not alter this well-established publication.
