I have started experimenting with copper clay or COPPRclay per the brand name. I've probably got about 20 or so grams worth of items drying and waiting to be fired. For anyone who has been thinking of trying out this new type of metal clay, I thought you might be interested in what I have learned so far:- Keep it refrigerated. Yes, I was surprised at this. Luckily, I opened up a package and read this info before it was too late. Even if you haven't opened up the sealed packet of clay, the instructions say to keep it in the frig until you are ready to use it or between uses once you do open it. Considering how hot it is where I live, I did that right away.
- You can still use olive oil like you can for silver metal clay, but I found this clay to be stickier and denser. I didn't necessarily use a lot of extra oil, but my work surface was originally going to be some press and seal wrap, which I've used before for silver clay. I switched over to a plastic sheet protector, added a tiny amount of oil on it, and it was much better.
- Make only a little slip. According to the instructions, the slip you may doesn't stay good for more than about a week, so just make a tiny amount when working (unless your project needs more).
That's it for now. Obviously, once I get the hang of this, or probably even before that because there is so much to metal clay in general, I'll have some projects posted.
