Bead weaving is probably one of the most challenging of jewelry making techniques because it takes oodles of patience and practice. I've taught both that and other types of jewelry making in face-to-face classes and discovered one major issue with those new to any jewelry technique is having the right type of materials to complete the jewelry task. It didn't matter if I provided a list of supplies ahead of time; invariably, a few students would show up with beads and other materials that were not the ones I told them to bring. I realized that those new to the technique would also be too new to understanding the importance of the correct jewelry supplies to use. As a result, I started to put together basic kits for the classes I taught.
I'm still a firm believer in jewelry kits today, even though I don't teach jewelry classes right now. If for nothing else but the fact that you have 99% of what you need right there in front of you when you open the kit, this simple fact is a huge hurdle when first learning how to make any type of jewelry for the first time. This issue is something that stood out to me when I started working on the Evening Glow Cuff Bracelet Kit from 1 Bead Weaver. Not only are all of your supplies there except for some beeswax, but the materials were beautiful, high quality, and perfectly suited for the technique involved(primarily square stitch for this kit). I know this stitch but was admittedly a little rusty; however, because the kit used 4mm square beads versus Delica, which I've used in the past, I was able to pick it up again very quickly.
Now, like any bead weaving, a total beginner needs to bring a little patience to the table and be prepared to practice, which can mean taking a part a piece a few times before total success if achieved, but if you have been wanting to tackle bead weaving this and the other kits available from 1 Bead Weaver are something to consider. They come with a needle, thread, more than enough beads, and illustrated instructions. If you are not new to bead weaving but don't want the hassle of picking out every single bead and notion you need for a project, then kits are another good option because you can get right to the fun part, making jewelry!
