Time to De-stash the Jewelry Mess!

Monday April 6, 2009
I'm on spring break, and along with a long list of items I hope to accomplish this week, I'm back at it again when it comes to de-stashing and getting my jewelry studio organized. I managed to get through two out of three jewelry supply boxes-o-mess today, and boy, my back and legs sure got a work-out!

I still have a long way to go, but one strategy that has helped me de-clutter has been setting aside a box or two to put donations in for a few groups who can use the supplies. For example, there are a few members of our Jewelry Making Forum who actively work with women's groups. One member is setting up a home for women in recovery, and as a way to help with expenses, they will sell arts and crafts, including jewelry. So even if you don't want to part with some of your jewelry supply stash, they may be interested in other craft supplies you are ready to part with.

Another great cause is the Emily Griffith Opportunity School were forum member, Sharon, works with women refugees. Through jewelry making and other crafts, these women learn English skills, gain self-esteem, and make a little money to boot. You can find a list of needed supplies on the group's weblog. Plus, in addition to supplies, they are also in need of patient jewelry making teachers. They currently have a call out for anyone who lives in the Denver area to come and help teach jewelry making lessons.

Spring is in the air, and that means spring cleaning. It makes such a huge difference for me when I have an organized space to work, and it feels good to be able to help others as I help myself create a space that is pleasant to work in, even if it does take a lot of non-crafting type work and sweat and back pain to get there!
