No Brainer Jewelry Promotion
Tuesday July 15, 2008
If you have a jewelry related business or are thinking about starting one, then one issue you will have to deal with is self-promotion. No one can toot your horn better than you can. Learning to promote your jewelry business, however, doesn't have to be all that involved, at least when it comes to some of the super simple no-brainer methods. Here are a few tips to help you promote your jewelry business. Feel free to add your own tips in the comments.
- Email signatures: If you have a web site, Etsy, and/or Ebay shop, make sure you include a link to them in your email signature. This seems so easy, yet I'm surprised at how many people email me who I know sell jewelry on-line and don't do this!
- Forum signatures: Most forums, like the one on this site, will not allow or appreciate it if you try to constantly sell to members. However, in most it is okay to put your URL in your signature, very similar to the email idea I just mentioned.
- Business cards: I tend to change out my purses a lot, some times at least once or twice a week, so I'm really bad about this, but make sure you have business cards handy. Next time someone compliments you on the jewelry you are wearing, whip one out and hand it to him or her.
- Packaging materials: If you already make a few sales now and then on-line or at shows, don't forget that you are getting another change to promote yourself with that customer. Often one sale will lead to another, so add a business card, promotional information, coupons, and/or a little freebie in with what the customer purchased. Attractive packaging is also a good idea to help encourage your customer to buy from you again.
- Twitter: Any time I post a new item in my Etsy store or write a new blog post or article on this site, I post a quick blurb about it and link on Twitter. The blog posts are set up as autofeeds so I don't have to do anything, and the other links I add manually take only a few minutes.
- Blogs & SNs: Write a blog and use social networks to help get the word out when you have new merchandise in your shop or a sale going on. Even if you don't have time to be super active on either, try to update blogs at least two to three times a week and social network sites at least once a week.
