Sparkle and Resin Jewelry Experiment
Tuesday June 24, 2008
Since first reading The Art of Resin Jewelry by Sherri Haab, I have been mulling over the idea of doing a few experiments with this medium. I remember resin from "back in the day," and I love the fact that it is starting to show a resurgence of popularity. Finally!I have a number of ideas, but since the 4th of July is almost here, I decided to test out my red, white, and blue glitter and star mold idea. Pictured are the results, or at least one star out of about 6 I've made so far. The first three were too thick. This last batch is much better, though maybe still a little on the thick side to turn into a pendant or charm of some kind.
I'm still testing the resin waters. Hopefully, I'll have a project for you soon with all the details.

I’m toying with the idea of doing something with resin but have no ideas where to start…any advice
Well, Sherri Haab’s book is really good, but honestly, many craft stores carry the products you need. So, you can simple read the back of the boxes to tell you what to get. Jennifer Perkins also has a good how-to video here:

Tammy, I have the book you recommended. I just got it and am in the throws of deciding what to do next. Thanks for your comment of just looking at the products in the store. I had come to that conclusion but really still wasn’t sure. Now, if I can just find the time… Bev
I made resin christmas ornaments years ago with a small assortment of nuts and glitter set in an ice-cube tray.
Thanks for featuring this Tammy~I have been seeing a lot of delightful resin creations on Etsy and had this on my list of things to check out next! I look forward to reading more about your experiments:-)
I live in Texas and I go to the neighborhood tavern and ask them to save bottle caps for me.
I take a bottle cap, punch a small hole in the side and put a jump ring in.
Then I put a small picture, mexican in nature, in and cover with resin. I string these or make earrings and they sell like hotcakes at the local flea market.
Well, obviously from the response here, I’ll have to get this project together and posted soon!
I think the thick ones can be hat pins….they would look lovely on a base ball hat or a visor you could do red silver & blue glitter ones for the 4th of July…even glue them on barretts.. Awsome…..
you could always saw the thick ones in half, then polish them and have 2 stars!
They saw easily with a jewelers saw or a dremel with a cutoff wheel on it!
Thanks, Susan, I was thinking they may be good for other types of non-jewelry crafts too.
Hi Barb, I was wondering about that. I know you can cut and sand the resin. I’m just not sure if will look the same after cutting, but it’s worth trying.
What a cool project! I think I could even do this
You could, Connie, it was amazingly easy!
