Crochet Your Jewelry and Other Magazine Finds
Jewelry making is my main craft, duh!, but I also am a busy crafter in other areas including crochet. I remember making my first pot holder back when I was in elementary school, and since then I have managed to work up a number of other larger items, mainly afghans since they usually take so little in the way of heavy duty technique.I'm working on finishing up yet anther afghan (years in the making as usual), so this magazine, Crochet Today ($4.99), caught my eye the other day while I was cruising the arts and crafts magazine section of my local book store. Notice the crochet beads she's wearing? Along with this project, which is labeled as "easy" in the skill level category, this issue (July/August 08) also includes an "easy" level crochet cuff bracelet. Both of these projects I plan to try. An additional jewelry crochet project is a long nautical necklace, which I'm not totally thrilled about from the picture, but it may have some interesting possibilities if it wasn't so darn large.
You can get thumbnail views of all the projects, including the three jewelry related ones I just mentioned, on the Crochet Today web site. Granted, it is like 100 degrees outside in most areas of the world, but if you are a crocheter already, this might be an interesting way to mix up your crafting a little. If you've never tried crochet, then these look like some fairly easy projects, and you will end up with some unique jewelry pieces and learn a new craft when you are finished.
