My New Metal Clay Jewelry Making Book is Out!

Tuesday June 3, 2008
I say "my" metal clay book, but actually, I have to thank a lot of very talented artists who helped me with this latest book project, a new beginning level metal clay book published by Course Technology entitled Picture Yourself Creating Metal Clay Jewelry: Step-by-Step Instructions for Forming, Firing, and Constructing Finished Jewelry. Many metal clay artists are included in the gallery section, the projects chapter, as well as sprinkled throughout the book, so it's a mixture of nuts and bolts "how-to" as well as visual inspiration.

The book focuses on low-fire metal clay (which you can fire with a butane torch or hot pot) along with basic wire and beading techniques designed so that a total beginner, someone who has never strung a bead or fired up a torch, could make the projects. There are a total of 10 super basic projects and 4 intermediate-level projects as well as two bonus projects in the accompanying 45-minute DVD.

The book is currently available at PMCSupply.com (who also helped me out tons with this project and sell the PMC hot pot for those who don't want to use a torch); Barnes & Noble.com; HotBooks, and of course, Amazon.com. Hopefully, more vendors will be offering this title very soon as well.

I want to thank everyone who helped me with this, from my dear hubby who took many of the photographs in the book (and there are a ton!); my sister and brother-in-law who helped me make the DVD (a major job, let me tell you!); the great publishing team at Course Technology; and again, the metal clay jewelry community in general who I've learned so much from and have been amazingly supportive.

I will be sure to take a look, although this would be “yet another hobby?!” as my husband would say. Best of luck with your new venture!

Thanks, Karen. Hey, another hobby is better than a lot of things you could be doing! Right?
