Step Up Your Wire Wrapping Technique

Tuesday May 27, 2008
With the bead and wire wrapping technique, you can take your wire wrapping skills as well as your jewelry designs to the next level.

What I like about this technique is the fact that you are really accomplishing two things: you are connect beads together to make a kind of wire and bead chain, and at the same time, you are wrapping wire around each inidividual bead so you have some extra design demension to the finished piece.

I've used this on a few projects, most recently the Serenity Ceramic, Wire, and Stone Necklace, where I used colored wire over hematite beads. Another project I used this technique on is my Purple Pendant Necklace. In this one, I wrapped sterling silver wire around howlite beads, so the silver contrasts with the white of the beads while it also matches the silver threads of pyrite that go through the beads.

Though this technique may take a little time to master and it will add extra time to some of your wire and bead jewelry designs, it is worth learning because it looks amazing once you are finished.
