Colorful Jewelry Aids

Thursday March 13, 2008
Color is probably one of "the" most important design elements you will have to deal with when you are creating a new piece of jewelry. Unique color combinations can distinguish your jewelry pieces, so color is something to pay attention to as you pull out those beads or if you are using colored wire as well.

Fire Mountain Gems & Beads has a few products to help with the jewelry designer with color. First, there is the Pantone Shopping Color Guide (pictured, $39.22). This portable stack of color cards are connected together so they fan out as you work with it. You can bring it with you shopping when you are looking for the perfect color of bead, or you can use it in your own closet when you are trying to determine the shade of that new outfit you just bought.

Another color tool, also created with the help of Pantone, is Colorstrology ($56.57). It is actually a little less serious than the color guide. It is called a "gift set," and the idea is that it is a way to match someone's birthday to her color profile.

Tammy,

I agree with you about the importance of color. I am Japanese and in Japan the sense of color is so important (comes from love of nature?) that Japan has its own color scheme like Pantone’s, but I remember that there are hundreds more colors. I can’t remember what it is called but I’ll find out and let you know.

Japan has some wonderfully talented beaders. It’s interesting how culture can influence your taste in color to some extent.
