Cost of Restringing Jewelry?

Friday June 8, 2007
Once you start getting known for making jewelry, it doesn't take long before friends, family, co-workers, and others start asking about restringing and repairing jewelry they purchased elsewhere. Because your cost of materials may be limited to some threading medium and a few findings, it can be difficult to figure out how much to charge for this service.

How much do you charge for restringing and repairing? Read my thoughts on "Tips for Handling Jewelry Repairs," and then head over to the Jewelry Making Forum to weigh in on a current related discussion on this topic of restringing.

For a very simple restringing, I charge my hourly rate for a minimum of one hour. If I’m doing redesigning, it’s a minimum of two hours. These are *minimums* ~ the cost goes up as the time goes by.

Did I mention that I really don’t enjoy restringing :-)

I agree. It reminds me of when I used to sew a lot. I would rather make an entire dress from scratch than hem a pair of pants or sew on a button.
