Metal Leaf for Polymer Bead Making
I have to admit to being polymer clay challenged, but I'm going to give it another shot soon. In fact, I received some new product samples from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads for using this beautiful metal leaf, available in gold, silver, and copper, to create polymer clay beads that have an extra sparkle to them, so I think I'm about ready to give it another go. If you received their October flyer, you'll find this and other Kato Polyclay products listed on page 67, or you can find them on-line as well.
They also have a free bead making project, written by Kathy Weaver, you can print which illustrates how to use the metal leaf to make Faux Lapis Beads.
If you have thought about trying to make your own beads before, but lampwork is a little daunting, then clay beads are another option for you.

I am totally hooked on polymer clay and its amazing possibilities, such as faux-everything in the world of stone, wood, etc. I’m SO glad you’re going to explore it more b/c I can’t wait to read more PC articles!
I started with polymer clay and it lead me to beading (though I still consider myself a total novice at both!), so I am also really excited to see the PC articles. It is a really exciting medium, and if it means MORE BEADS–well, what could be better?
Hi Tammi — I used polymer clay years ago when I first started making jewelry (14 yrs). At that time I only made earrings and I did not use polymer clay very long before I moved to regular jewelry making techniques. However, like you, I plan to forage into this field again. Polymer clay has advanced tremendously since I first used it and you there is such a lot of stuff now. So when I get a few pieces made I will post on the forum.
Wow. I’m surprised at the response to this. I guess I really will have to make some beads now. These actually don’t look too involved because they don’t deal with canes.
I have almost every tool that has been invented for PC, however, I have not yet mastered the art in the way that I intend to..To make beads that DO NOT look like PC….I am a beader so I am, of course, my worst critic. The ride is fun and I do not intend to stop working towards the mastery. Thanks, Tammy, for your incouragement and inspiration!
